Creating during lockdown allowed long-held ideas to be put into practice. Our response has been to go back to basics by experimenting with natural dyeing as well as developing craft skills like quilting and knitting. A consideration for environmental sustainability has been central in this development and we have consciously sourced second hand materials and recycled yarns.

Inspiration for N I N E

During lockdown we felt there was a lack of concern for Black, brown and working class lives. We sought comfort in researching significant times, where marginalised groups were activating communities to protest injustices in the UK. This research, set in the context of the current social and political climate, has ignited our interest in developing how these histories inform our creative practice and the current collection.

The British Black Power Movement and Black Liberation c.1970s and the idea that 'adornment was crucial to defining liberation on their own terms' has been the inspiration for this collection. The Black Panthers' militant style has inspired us to rework unissued vintage military uniforms.
